Various al Midaman ceramic forms have ties to the larger Red Sea and Arabian Bronze Age world. The excavated sites of Sihi and Subr offer key parallels to this ceramic group. Note the appearance of an early form of the alphabet on a lid (no. d). This object may help solve the mystery of how the Proto-Sinaitic/Canaanite alphabet reached South Arabia by 1000 B.C. Maritime trading through the Red Sea was the most efficient way to move goods (and ideas) throughout the Bronze Age.
