Khor Rohri lies at the upper juncture of a large lagoon system. The sand bar now blocking the lagoon dates to the mid second millennium A.D. Notice the promontory (one of two) blocking the harbor. Investigation on the top revealed a large wall and gate system probably dating to the Abbasid period. The other cliff to the west (not visible), contained the Abbasid settlement. The large promontory to the left of Khor Rohri on itys summit contains a large Bronze Age and smaller Iron Age settlement. At Khor Rohri itself, a small shell midden underlies the Shabwa fortress colony.
