By 1990, the Oman government was constructing a large permanent set of buildings for the local beduin. Various generators and pumps also increased agricultural productivity. Note the large oasis to the southeast of the collapsed sinkhole and fields further to the south, east and north. Historical descriptions of the Ubar legend suggest that such outposts were surrounded by agricultural fields in the Parthian-Sassanian periods.(cf. Ain Humran complex).
Soil analysis for the Shisur area also suggests that a number of fields were possible east of the Wadi Ghadun worked on good soil.
